COTTAGE GROVE - Black Beary Bestaurant held its Grand Opening Spring '07 and is open for business in the location most know as Bunny's Hangout at 1645 East Main Street in Cottage Grove.
In our interview held well before the Grand opening owner John Zamora stated "We are excited to give Cottage Grove another option for dining," He also owns Aromaz, 811 E Main, just down the street. Both can also be found in the OurCreswell.com Restaurant Directory
"People have told us they were sad when Bunny's closed. There was a lot of anticipation to see it reopened and to have another restaurant in the same location," said Zamora.
"We have tried our best to preserve the history of this restaurant as well as the rich mining and farming heritage of Cottage Grove," states Zamora. Inside you will find some of the historic pictures that were hanging when it was Bunny's, and much more. There are movie posters from every movie that was filmed in Cottage Grove, signed photos from famous actors in those movies, a mural of the Vesuvius Mine in the Bohemia mining district taken from an early 1900's photo.
When asked where the name of the restaurant comes from John explained, "Zamora is a Hispanic surname which means Blackberry in English. We thought it would be fun to spell it a little differently and have a bear in the logo. And for the Bestaurant, it represents us putting our best foot forward for our customers. We value our customers and we are always trying to improve to live up to our name."
The food is a blend of hometown favorites. They specialize in Broaster foods, which are prepared with a special rice oil in a pressure cooker and are extremely low in fat. They also have juicy ½ pound burgers, The Beary Best B.L.A.T., and salads with names like Bear Creek Dinner Salad, Coast Fork Chef Salad and the Grover's Veggie Delight. Daily Specials include a $4 breakfast, $5 Lunch, $6 Dinner and Prime Rib Fri/Sat featuring a 8 oz portion for 13.95 or 12 oz. at 15.95. An effort has been made to attract the frugal diner and the IMG_9210restaurant has been successful in accomplishing that.
The Restaurant also features a full lounge with weekend entertainment . Their hours of operation are Monday through Sunday 9-9 pm. The lounge is open currently till 9 pm with plans to stay open till 11pm starting in March. Patio and outdoor seating is also available and full catering services.
There have been changes since our original interview and Zamora has hired a General Manager, Jay Plowwright, who oversees the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, with the help of seven local employees. Zamora has relocated back to California where he works as a School Administrator unsuccessful in finding comparable work in this area. In his absence, Plowwright has worked tirelessly to build the restaurant which has owner Zamora, "Very pleased," in the progress.
Check the Black Beary Bestaurant out, they have designed it to be beary, beary reasonable to try.
