Creswell Christian School and 5 C’s has become a fixture in Creswell. Most of the residents here believe it has been here for ever. Close.

Rebecca Lake states, “My sister Debby (Hisey) and I were teaching in a school in Eugene that was closing. There were several families that said they would follow us just about anywhere, if we could find another location for the school. After several failed attempts to find a suitable location in Eugene , we decided to try the Creswell Church of Christ, where our parents had attended for many years. The church board decided to give the school a chance, and Creswell Christian Child Care Center was "born". That was over 28 years ago, the exact date I believe was January 4, 1977 .

A few years later, George Wilson, the pastor of Creswell Christian Center at the time, persuaded Debby and I to seriously consider and pray about starting an elementary school division of 5Cs. The building which currently houses CCS was still under construction. Pastor Wilson asked Debby and I to come and see the part of the building which they were designing with a school in mind. It was an awesome day - the roof was not yet on the building and you could look up and see the beautiful sky! A comment was made that it was too bad the building had to have a roof!

Shortly after the building was finished, CCS opened with grades one through six. Within a few years, our student body had grown to include grades 7, 8 and 9. During that time, the church had a change in leadership and direction and felt it was no longer able to offer the school the space it had been using, so much to the dismay of our school families, CCS closed.

About 5 or 6 years later, parents of our pre-K and Kindergarten students kept asking when we would reopen CCS. With their urging, and the fact that one of the directors now had a very personal interest in Christian education (I had a 6 year old son), the hunt began for a new location.

The first year of the reopening of CCS, we shared the facilities at 5Cs.

We were CROWDED! The second year, the Creswell Nazarene church opened its doors to us. It became evident right away, that we were swiftly outgrowing their building, so the next year, CCS moved to the Creswell Presbyterian church. We remained at the Presbyterian Church for several years, and enjoyed a very special relationship with Norm and the church family, however, our walls began to creak and groan with a growing student body. When the opportunity arose for us to move back to our original location - Creswell Christian Center- we said a tearful goodbye to our dear friends at the Presbyterian Church, and moved back. I guess you can say the school has come full circle!

The thing I appreciate most about our schools is that my "job" is also my ministry. I get to go to work everyday knowing that at this time and for this season, God has chosen me to help educate and love His children into the kingdom. Loving my job doesn't mean that it is always easy. My day will most likely entail regular office duties, interacting with the students and staff, lending a listening ear, giving a hug or a pat on the back, dealing with the occasional irate parent, disciplining an unruly student, appreciating a child's drawing made just for me, handing out band aids with a little TLC, visiting with some of our junior high students who like to come down to the office for a chat during their break, and yes, even plunging the toilet when necessary! Every day uniquely is exciting and challenging.

The community of Creswell has been a blessing to 5Cs and CCS. We enjoy being a part of a growing community, and have always felt that the people of Creswell are our biggest supporters. Hundreds of children have come through our schools and we hope that in some way, we have made a difference in the lives of the kids and their families. We have had the wonderful opportunity to employ some of our former students, and now also teach some of the children of our former students!

We praise God for His continued blessings on 5Cs and CCS. HE is the head of our school board, and as long as we keep our eyes on Him, He holds the future in His hands!”
