CRESWELL – Rhonda Fetters of Creswell started her business, “because I had an excessive amount of dahlia tubers and was inspired back in 1996 when my husband (Harold) and I went to a dahlia show.” At the show we fell in love with all the different varieties of dahlias. So, as my dahlia collection grew, people stopped by to inquire about purchasing my tubers. So, she decided to start selling those extra tubers.
From this start, “she quickly realized that there was such a demand for dahlia’s that I planted more varieties every year just trying to keep up.” With such a tremendous amount of dahlias growing in her garden people then inquired about cut flowers for weddings, anniversaries, and other occasions. creswellcountry
For the last two years Rhonda has been selling pre-cut dahlias and cutting fresh flowers to give to the seniors, which she enjoys the most because it really brightens their day. In addition she enjoys getting to meet and talk to people from all over, especially those who enjoy dahlias as much as I do.
Known by many as “the Dahlia Lady,” her typical day begins with cutting fresh dahlias to place in her self serve flower stand. Rhonda then moves on to working in other areas of her yard, so that she is around when someone stops by, “that way I can help them, or answer any questions that they have.”
Thinking about what could be done to improve her business she states, “I would like to see Creswell have some form of information board for the small growers in this community. So that people are aware that businesses like mine exist.”
