OurLocalBusiness - Kona Cafe Opens - 02/25/05

Aloha!

Steve Nelson, owner of The Kona Café has given the go ahead, Saturday, February 26th will be opening day of their Oregon Avenue location (Formerly Brown Dog). After being encouraged to take a look at the space available from the Brown Dog Deli closure by several local residents who frequent the Springfield Kona Café, the decision was made to open. Recently there has been much effort put into remodeling to give the restaurant the ambiance desired. Get ready for some bright colors...

So - The Kona Café have Oregon’s only authentic Huli-Huli barbecue that is direct from Hawaii. Huli–Huli means to roll or turn over in Hawaiian, and that’s just what our signature pork ribs do; they are rolled (rotisserie style) over 100% mesquite charcoal after being marinated in our own sauce. The chicken is also grilled over the mesquite charcoal to give it that incredible barbecue taste. Also featured is Kalua Pork, the smoky, salty main dish at a traditional Hawaiian Luau. They feature 4 sauces to compliment your ribs, chicken or pig: our own huli sauce, teriyaki sauce, volcano (hot and sweet) sauce and paniolo sauce (western style with a tropical flair). Another specialty of is our pineapple fried rice: white rice fried in a wok over mesquite charcoal with fresh pineapple, green onions and our huli sauce. If you’re trying the food for the first time, they recommend the 2 choice mixed plate. It comes in small or large, has any two of our meats, plus rice and potato/macaroni salad.

The catering side of "The Kona Café" comprises 1/3 of their business. Many businesses in this area have chosen the service and have been well pleased. Victor Olivera from Auto Service Center on N Pacific Hwy was "very pleased" when they catered an "Hawaiian Luau" Business Anniversary Customer Celebration.
