Mr. Macho’s
A Pizza Story

Creswell, OR – “My Mom, Marla always wanted to run a pizza parlor,” says son Brent Taylor who now manages Mr. Macho’s. Marla opened and ran a pizza parlor on the west side of the tracks by selling her Corvette along with numerous other items to start the business.

Brent vaguely remembers Marla, because his mother passed away from cancer when he was five. What he does remember is his mother and father saying, “produce quality food = happy customers. This business premise was carried across the Creswell railroad tracks to their present location in 1983. Don Taylor then invented the “Bulldog pizza” which has been quite a hit over the years, “What else could he name it,” Brent remarks. mrmachos0124062

There have been many cosmetic changes since purchasing the old location of Panda’s pizza which earlier had gone out of business at the present Mr Macho’s location. The largest is probably the $100K addition which includes the current playroom that before was not enclosed. In addition, a drive thru was added which served espresso, which now serves as the drive-thru for Speedy-Burger.

Brent who has worked at Mr. Macho’s since he was 12 has updated the furniture, added several video games, big screen TV, and ice cream during his tenure. Brent is also particularly proud of his employees whose tenure average 4-6 years. “They are very loyal,” he emphasizes.

He also points out that Don, his father introduced Video Poker to Mr. Macho’s which made it the first restaurant in Oregon to offer the game.

”I would like to see more living wage jobs created here,” Brent states. “It would stabilize the town and prevent much of the crime.” When considering it all, he says, “Creswell is just full of good people.”
