Coffee’s In My Blood
By Amanda Fitzgerald
Misty Demanett is continuing the trend her aunts, Debbie and Teresa Demanett, began years ago as they ran Creswell’s first coffee shop, the C & H located next to Mallard’s restaurant. Misty, who worked in her aunts’ coffee shop, is carrying on her aunts’ tradition by being the new owner of the Brown Dog Deli’s coffee kiosk, which now goes by the name, “Bean Hopper.”
The kiosk was built for Misty by The Brown Dog Deli’s previous owner, Victor Brincat, which she ran while the deli was still in business. After going out of business, Misty bought the kiosk, along with part owners, Bob and Aimie Garvin of Creswell. Bob works at Comfort Flo, while Aimie works as a window washer, and jack-of-all-trades.
The Bean Hopper employs four Creswell gals, two of which attend the high school, while the other two are in college. Misty, being a Creswell resident herself, chose to open her business here, because of her love for the town. It is evident that the town loves her as well, as she has an estimated over 200 regular customers! Misty has also shown her devotion to the town she loves by donating gift cards to the CHS Mr. Bulldog Dinner Auction, which will be held on January 29.
Creswell resident, Mary Crabaugh, had been getting her coffee from the kiosk ever since it opened with the Brown Dog. She was really disappointed when the kiosk closed, and was very happy when Misty bought it. The girls know Mary so well that she stated with a chuckle, “Sometimes they have my drink ready before I even drive up!”
The drinks have a precision and quality taste that can only come from recipes that are perfected as they are passed down from generation to generation. The business is booming with recipes from Misty’s aunts, the use of mainly Seattle’s Best Coffee and sometimes Starbucks, four friendly faces to make your drink, and a prime location, being next to the 76 gas station on Oregon Avenue. Customers even get the Bean Hopper’s quality touch, with a chocolate-covered espresso bean on top of their drinks. Head on down to The Bean Hopper today to see for yourself how outstanding this customer-friendly business really is.
