Help! Disk Cleanup keeps hanging…
The first time you run Desk Cleanup or if it has been a while, you may notice that the Disk Cleanup Utility takes longer and longer to sort files or won't complete the cleanup process. This is usually caused by a full TEMP directory, corrupt temp files or a fragmented hard disk.
First try cleaning out the temp files and then perform a disk defragmentation:
To clean TEMP files:
Go to Start>> Run, type in: %temp% [Enter]
In the resulting menu, select Edit>> Select All [Delete] Then select Yes.

Then perform Disk Defragmentation.
Click: Start>> All Programs>> Accessories>> System Tools>> Disk Defragmenter.
The Disk Cleanup Utility should run much better for you now!
